The
following words touch me in some way. I collected them together
really just for my own benefit - a place to return for inspiration. This is not an attempt to change anyone's beliefs or
opinions - I think there's too much of that mindset in the
world already. I believe we have to find our own answers - each of us is on our own journey, yet
underneath it all we're not so different or so alone. After all, we are all leaves
on the same tree.

The moment I heard my first love story
I began searching for you,
not
knowing how foolish that was
True lovers don't meet somewhere out
there,
but are in each other all along.
- Jelaluddin Rumi
A human being is part of the whole, called by us 'Universe'; a part limited in
time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something
separated from the rest--a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This
delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and
affection for a few persons nearest us. Our task must be to free ourselves from
this prison by widening our circle of compasion to embrace all living creatures
and the whole nature in its beauty. Nobody is able to achieve this completely
but striving for such achievement is, in itself, a part of the liberation and a
foundation for inner security.
- Albert Einstien
Love is, above all, the gift of oneself.
- Jean Anouilh
Size matters not. Look at me. Judge me by my size, do you? Hmm? Hmm?
And well you should not. For my ally is the Force. And a powerful ally
it is. Life creates it, makes it grow. It's energy surrounds us and
binds us. Luminous beings are we...(Yoda pinches Luke's shoulder)...not
this crude matter. You must feel the Force around you. Here, between
you...me...the tree...the rock...everywhere! Yes, even between this
land and that ship!
- Yoda
So much of life is paradox. So much of life is neither one
thing nor the other... it's both things at the same time.
- David Hyde Pierce
Soon the child's clear eye is clouded over by
ideas, ambition, preoccupations, opinions. Simple, free being becomes encrusted
year by year, the amour of the ego. Not until years later does an instinct come
that a vital sense of mystery has been withdrawn. The sun glints through the
pines and the heart is pierced in a moment of beauty and strange pain, like a
memory of paradise. And after that day, we become again seekers.
- Peter Matteson
As a man who has devoted his whole life to the most
clear headed science, to the study of matter, I can tell you as a result of my
research about atoms this much: There is no matter as such. All matter
originates and exists only by virtue of a force which brings the particle of an
atom to vibration and holds this most minute solar system of the atom together.
We must assume behind this force the existence of a conscious and intelligent
mind. This mind is the matrix of all matter.
- Max Planck (during his 1918 acceptance speech
for the Nobel Prize in Physics, awarded for the discovery of energy quanta)
We are what we think. All that we are arises with our thoughts. With our
thoughts, we make our world.
- Buddha
The world is like a ride at an amusement park. And when you
choose to go on it, you think it's real because that's how powerful our
minds are. And the ride goes up and down and round and round. It has
thrills and chills and it's very brightly coloured and it's very loud
and it's fun... for a while. Some people have been on the ride for a
long time, and they begin to question: Is this real, or is this just a
ride? And other people have remembered, and they come back to us, they
say, "Hey, don't worry, don't be afraid, ever, because this is
just a ride." And we… kill those people - "Shut him up! We have
a lot invested in this ride. Shut him up. Look at my furrows of worry.
Look at my big bank account and my family. This just has to be real..."
It's just a ride. But we always kill those good guys who try and tell
us that, you ever notice that? And let the demons run amok. But it
doesn't matter, because... it's just a ride. And we can change it
anytime we want. It's only a choice. No effort, no work, no job, no
savings and money. A choice, right now, between fear and love. The eyes
of fear want you to put bigger locks on your doors, buy guns, close
yourself off. The eyes of love instead see all of us as one. Here's
what we can do to change the world, right now, to a better ride. Take
all that money we spend on weapons and defenses each year and instead
spend it feeding and clothing and educating the poor of the world,
which it would pay for many times over, not one human being excluded,
and we could explore space, together, both inner and outer, forever, in
peace.
- Bill Hicks
Why, of course the people don't want war. Why would some poor slob on a
farm want to risk his life in a war when the best that he can get out
of it is to come back to his farm in one piece. Naturally, the common
people don't want war; neither in Russia, nor in England, nor in
America, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after
all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it
is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a
democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist
dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to
the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell
them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of
patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any
country."
- Herman Goering (Hitler’s Nazi Reich Marshall) 18 April 1946 (from Gustave Gilbert's "Nuremberg Diary")
Hatred does not cease by hatred, but only by love; this is the eternal
rule.
- Buddha
"If only you were more like me then I wouldn't have to be so angry with you."
- Wayne Dyer (defining the underlying thought behind most disagreement and conflict)
You will not be punlished for your anger, you will be punished by your anger.
- Buddha
Some things you must always be unable to bear
Some things you must never stop refusing to bear
Injustice and outrage and dishonor and shame
No matter how young you are or how old you've got
Not for kudos
Not for cash
Your picture in the paper
Or money in the bank neither
Just refuse to bear them
- William Faulkner
One thing is sure. A great change of our
psychological attitude is imminent. That is certain because we need more
psychology, we need more understanding of human nature, because the only real
danger that exists is man himself. He is the great danger and we are pitifully
unaware of it. We know nothing of man. Far too little.
- Carl Jung
I thought of age, and loneliness, and change.
I thought how strange we
grow when we're alone,
And how unlike the selves that meet and talk,
And
blow the candles out, and say good night.
Alone. The word is life endured and known.
It is the stillness
where our spirits walk
And all but inmost faith is overthrown.
- Siegfried Sassoon
We cannot change anything unless we accept it. Condemnation does not liberate,
it oppresses.
- Carl Jung
Imagination is more important that knowlege.
- Albert Einstein
There is no way to happiness. Happiness is the way.
- Wayne Dyer
We are not human beings on a spiritual journey. We are spiritual beings on a
human journey.
- Stephen Covey
Ah... this you better find out for
yourself. Don’t ask the meaning from me. It’s like asking me to chew your candy
for you. It is not possible. I can put candy in your mouth, but I can’t chew it
for you. You have to chew your own candy. Be with this question. I can
tell you one thing, you are very fortunate that this question arises in your
mind. One in a million people will get this question. It is a very sincere
question. It means you have started your journey toward the light. You stopped
just existing and started on to the beautiful path. Be with this question, and
don’t be in such a hurry for a ready-made answer from somebody. Go deep into
yourself and you will find out.
- Sri Sri Ravi Shankar (when questioned on the true meaning of life)
